Egyptain gods and goddess

Ra

Ra was the god of the sun and creation.

Ra was worshipped in heliopolis which is greek for sun city.

Ra had the head of a falcon and can be seen wearing a sun disc.

People worshipped Ra with hymns prayers that were said to help him overcome apep.

It was believed that Ra didn't like nut and geb's relationship so ordered there dad to seperate them. It is also said that Ra sail's a boat over the heavens every day.

Egyptains believe that Ra created everything.

Egyptainss made cavings of Ra as a man with the head of a falcon.

When Ra died at the end of the day he sailed the underworld and the job of lighting up the world was left up to the moon until the moring when he was reborn.

On his journy though the underworld a giant serpant called Apep attacked him and then Seth the god of chaos and disorder helped Ra defeat Apep

Anubis

Anubis was the god of mummification.

He was worshipped in Dog city, located in upper Egypt.

Stones were associated with Anubis usually dark stones.

Egyptains made sacrafices in Dog city to worship Anubis.

Anubis would weigh the hearts of the dead if they were lighter then ma'ats feather they would live forever, if heavier they would be eaten.

Anubis is also the protector of the gate to the underworld.

Anubis had the head of jackal (a jackal is a scavenging and hunting animal like a small wolf, native to Africa) because Anubis had the head of a jackal, jackal's had an association with the dead aswell

Anubis is the greek name for the god in egypt it is anpu the book of dead often shows priest wearing jackal mask and performing enbalming rituals

Anubis was one of the most worshipped gods in all of ancient Egypt.

Seth

Seth is the god of chaos and disorder.

Seth is worshipped in the temples of Ombos.

Seth was associated with anything red.

Like Anubis Seth was worshipped with sacrafices.

Egyptains believed Seth was responsible for mudering his own brother Osiris because he was jelous that Osrirs was one of the three major egyptain god and he was the opposite.

Seth was one of the five osirian gods.

Seth may have killed Orsris but his son Horus later defeated Seth.

Like I said before seth help Ra defeat apep.

Ma'at

Ma'at is the god of truth and justice.

Ma'at was worshipped in the temple of Deir-el-medina in Karnak.

Ma'at was associated with feathers and wings.

People would worship Ma'at with food,wine and fragrebt incenses.

Ma'at was given the role of priest and the job of working in direct law courts.

When Anubis weighed the dead persons heart he used ma'ats feather as said earlier.

Ma'at was seen as a women with feathers(or wings).

Osiris

Osiris is the god of the underworld.

Osiris is worshipped at the cult center of Abydos.

Osiris is associated with a plump headdress.

Egyptains worship Osiris with prayers and sacrafies.

Egyptains believed Oriris was murdered by his own brother Seth and then he became the god of the underworld before being reborn because his wife Isis found all his broken parts and rebuilt him.

Osiris is one of the 3 major Egyptain gods.

Osiris is one of the most important deities.

Osiris wore a atef hat on his head as you can see in the picture on the left and in most egyptain pictures, cavings and images.

Osiris is the son of nut and geb.

pharoh's were seen as a manafestation of Oriris in death.

Sekhmet

Sekhmet was goddess of medicine and war.

Sekhmet was worshipped in mempish.

Sekhmet had a lions head and a sun disc.

Ra sent Sekhmet out to kill humanity and see did and then didn't want her to she continued so Ra stoped her by druging her and then see became hathor.

Sekhmet(like other feirce goddess) was also called the "Eye of re".

Sekhmet was a women with the head of a lioness.

Sekhmet was married to ptah, the god of healing.

Hathor

Hathor was the goddess of love, music and dance.

Hathor would look after all women in life and in death.

Hathor could be seen as a cow with a sun disc.

Hathor was assoctiated with the Milky way.

Like I said before before she was nice she was Sekhmet the goddess of war and medicine.

There is still remains of Hator's tempel today.

Hathor had a cow form because cow's were a high valued animal in ancient egypt.

Hathor had the power to bring laughter, joy and happiness to all.

Hathor can also be spelt as Athor.

Thoth

Thoth is the god of wisdom, writing, time and moon.

Ancient egyptains believed Thoth created Hieroglyphics and that he kept a record of all knowledge.

He has the head of a ibis bird(a long beaked bird commonly found in Egypt).

In ancient Egypt Thoth was considered one of the most important egyptain gods.

Egyptains believed Thoth had no parents but thorght he was self-produced.

The main Thoth shrine or temple is in Khemennu

Thoth was worshipped with prayers.

Thoth played a very inportant role in egyptain mythology.

hoth could also have the head of a baboon although he was usally had the head of a ibis bird

Amun/Amun-Ra

Amun was the god of wind and air.

Amun was an important god because it was said that he created all things.

There are few pictures of Amun since he was invisible most of the pictures of him are of him in his 2nd form which is Amun-Ra.

Amun became Amun-Ra where he combined with Ra.

Over time Anum gained importance.

Amun-ra was comsidered the king of the gods.

Amun had the head of a person but could also somtimes have the head of a ram.

Isis

Isis is the goddess of love and motherhood.

Isis is the queen of the godess.

Isis was one of the first goddess know to the ancient Egyptains.

Isis had a thron on her head but sometimes she had a sun disc.

Isis was considered a magicain.

Isis was worshipped from England to Afghanistand.

People worshipped Isis with rituals.

Isis was the mother of horus.

Isis was daughter of geb the earth god.
